Artist's Comments

This started life as a set of photos taken with a 35mm Pentax SLR using a 28mm wide angle lens, before they were scanned and digitally stitched and retouched. I got this printed just over 5 feet long onto high quality gloss foamboard for my AS-level photography course and now have it framed on my wall.

Wow, this must have been a lot of work... It seems woth it in the end. Beautiful. I would put that on my wall too. :)

This is a beautiful piece, Jaik. I can't even see where the joins are. ;) My panoramas never turn out like this... perhaps it's the wide angle that's the key ;) Truly lovely, and you can see how much this has been worked on... What was the project title you did this for?

Thanks ;) Getting the clean joins is really just a matter of doing a few test runs first and having the patience to play around for hours on end. If you try to get about a 25% overlap on each picture then it seems to be easiest, and also using dedicated panorama software obviously helps a LOT.

I've actually forgotten what the project title was but I know it was really broad and it was more a matter of choosing what photo you wanted and linking it to the project than anything else.

HOLY CRAP:!: HOLY COW :!: THAT'S A BIGGIE :!: ...THAT'S A WOW :!:...

Generally they keep me in rooms that aren't any bigger than 4ft by 4ft..so i could never hang this on my wall...even tho i'd like to.

it's very kool:thumbsup: ..what a project :!:...

and IT DOES remind me i have a bloody stitching setting on my camera that i never even tried yet :stupidme:

SO what to you do here?...just stand in one spot and swivel the camera view a little further from the same point?

Yeah, I put my camera on a tripod and locked it so that it only turned horizontally then just took a series of photos and different angles from the same point.

Yeah I've used Photoshop CS to do some panoramas recently, but sadly it's only a trial and I can't afford to buy the program (or find a download version of it ;)). :sniff: What software did you use for this? It really is lovely and shows how much work you put in ;)

I used The Panorama Factory for this one, but I've since found a program called Panorama Tools which is really very powerful once you figure it out.

That looks like a lot of work, but it was well worth it. When doing something like this you made a great choice in making it black and white, and increasing the contrast. They both help to cover up seams. So what did you get as a grade on this? I read in the comments that you used specialized program, that's pretty good. I tried using a stitch program once, but it just looked really bad, so I taughy myself how to do it in photoshop using masks. And actually all of my photos, save the most recent, are stitched together. Anyways really nice job, you should keep at it.
